Our Green Credentials

At British Gas, we are committed to tackling climate change by minimising our own carbon emissions as a business, and by helping homes and businesses to reduce their carbon emissions too.

Last year alone, we installed more than 13 million energy efficiency products such as loft & cavity wall insulation and low energy light bulbs. This saved around 1 million tonnes in carbon emissions and benefited over 6 million GB homes. If every energy efficiency light bulb supplied in our Green Survival Pack was used to replace standard light bulbs in your home, we would save enough carbon dioxide to almost fill the Royal Albert Hall^^.

Our engineers installed around 90,000 energy efficient boilers in 2006 and are this year providing solar heating products for homes. As a responsible energy supplier, we also aim to contribute to the creation of a sustainable, low-carbon future while ensuring long term security of energy supplies for our customers. The electricity we provide to homes and businesses has the lowest carbon emissions of any of the major GB energy suppliers. And we plan to invest more than £750 million in renewable power generation in the coming years.

Working in Partnership

We're also working with the Mayor of London to offer Londoners cavity wall insulation for as little as £250 and loft insulation for £274. You will also receive a total cash back of £100 from the Mayor and British Gas once insulation is completed. If you are in receipt of benefits you may be entitled to free insulation. Forty per cent of London’s CO2 emissions come from energy use in Londoners homes. If all Londoners insulated their homes properly London could save up to 700,000 tonnes of CO2, helping to fight climate change and save the planet.

At the beginning of 2007, British Gas also signed up to sponsoring London Better Together as their environmental delivery partner in an effort to encourage best practice amongst London's businesses. You will also see us in action for London Better Together Day on June 15th. Click here for more details:

We are also supporting the Green Guardian Awards with the Newsquest South London Group and Time Out's Green Scene weekly section.

Make It GReener Where You Are

We have made a commitment to reviewing our own environmental impacts from this campaign and will be endeavouring to use sustainable materials and channels for communication. Alongside our partners at Posterscope and The London Paper, we will be promoting the recycling of used material throughout, and ensuring all internal communication used for our employees is made from recycled matter where possible.
